Edenton's Walters competes for CPL Select team

CARY — The Coastal Plain League Select team lost to the USA Collegiate National team 4-0 Monday afternoon in eight innings at the USA Baseball Training Complex.
The annual exhibition baseball game pits some of the top performing players from the CPL against other top American college baseball players.
The Edenton Steamers were represented by Ian Walters.
Walters, a junior from Southern Illinois University, entered the game as a pinch hitter in the top of the fifth inning.
Walters went 0-for-2 in his two at bats off the bench for the CPL Select.
Team USA scored runs in the bottom of the second inning on a Colton Cowser RBI single, in the fifth on an Alika Williams sacrifice fly out that scored Cowser from third base, a run in the sixth on a Spencer Torkelson solo home run and in the seventh on a Casey Opitz solo home run.
Walters ended the first half with the Clams with a .340 batting average with six home runs, 17 RBI, 24 runs scored in 94 at bats during 26 games.
The Steamers opened CPL second-half play Tuesday night at Hicks Field against the Morehead City Marlins.
