EDENTON — The Steamers fell 6-4 at home against the Morehead City Marlins to open up the season's second half.

Tuesday night's game was tied at 4-4 going into the ninth when Morehead City (2-0) took the lead for good.

Hunter Shepherd and pinch-hitter Zack Miller went back-to-back with solo home runs off Grant Crosby to take the 6-4 lead.

Before then, neither team had scored since the bottom of the fourth. Brycen Thomas hit a solo home run for Edenton (0-1) to tie the game up at that point.

Shortstop Jake Evans hit a two-run double in the second to give the Steamers a 2-1 advantage, their only lead of the game.

The Marlins tagged Edenton starter Jake Eisenbarger for three runs in the top of the third inning to retake a 4-2 lead, thanks to a three-run shot from Colby Johnson.

Eisenbarger pitched five innings for the Steamers, walking four, allowing three hits and giving up four earned runs.

Blake Beers, a University of Michigan product, made his Edenton debut, allowing two hits and striking out six in three scoreless innings of relief.

The Steamers were back in action in Wilmington Wednesday night and are off today.
