The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) released the 2019 Predicted Order of Finish Thursday at the conference media days in Roanoke, Virginia.

The Vikings were represented at the media session by senior linebacker Shawn Bridges and head coach Anthony Jones.

Elizabeth City State was selected to finish eighth overall and fifth in the North Division.

The Vikings, who are coming off of a 1-7 record in 2018, placed ahead of North Division rival Lincoln (Pa.) as well as South Division foes Saint Augustine’s, Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith.

Bowie State and Fayetteville State, the 2018 CIAA Football Championship participants, were predicted by the coaches to finish in the top two spots.

North Division rivals Virginia Union, Chowan and Virginia State were predicted to finish in slots three through five.

Winston-Salem State and Shaw were the final two teams that placed ahead of ECSU in the sixth and seventh spots.

ECSU will open its season on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. facing off against Hampton at Armstrong Stadium.
