A former Perquimans County High School softball player finished her first season as a professional softball player.

Haley Cooper helped Performance Lab advance to the American Softball Association championship final last week.

Cooper and Performance Lab, which finished the regular season with the second best record in the four-team league, lost to Moh-BEEL! USA in the championship final of the double elimination tournament in Satsuma, Alabama.

Cooper, a catcher, posted a .169 batting average with five RBI and had a 1.000 fielding percentage during the regular season.

She was tied for the league lead in fielding percentage, fourth in caught stealing by (3), second in chances (161), third in steal attempts against (18), second in putouts (151), tied for first in passed balls (2) and third in stolen bases against (15).

Cooper completed her four-year college career with the Chowan University softball program this past spring and was drafted by the Performance Lab in the ASBA Draft on June 5.


Mid-Atlantic Christian University released the schedules for its men's soccer and women's volleyball teams for the 2019 seasons last month.

The MACU women's volleyball team is scheduled to play 24 matches this fall with the season opener set for Friday, Aug. 23 at Chesson Gym against Wake Tech Community College.

MACU's first road match is Friday, Aug. 30 against Greensboro College.

The Mustangs' first Eastern Metro Athletic Conference match of the season is Saturday, Sept. 21 against Johnson & Wales-Charlotte in Elizabeth City.

MACU will have nine home matches this season.

The regular-season finale is Tuesday, Oct. 29 at home against Bryant & Stratton College out of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The MACU women's volleyball team posted a 2-19 overall record last season.

The MACU men's soccer team opens the 2019 season Sunday, Sept. 1 at Penn State Mont Alto.

The Mustangs host Paul D. Camp Community College (Va.) for their home opener Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The MACU men's soccer program will have nine home matches during a scheduled 16-game regular season.

The Mustangs posted an 0-12-0 overall record last season.
