CAMDEN — Camden boys soccer won their season opener 5-0 at home against the Bears on Thursday.

Senior Tanner Pippen netted a hat trick, scoring three of the five goals for Camden (1-0).

Nate Graham, a senior, and junior Noah Kelly scored the other two as Kelly also contributed an assist.

Spencer Middelton assisted on two goals as Shane Chappell also got credited for one against Bear Grass Charter (1-2).

Camden hosts Hertford County this Wednesday.

Currituck 4, John A. Holmes 1: The Knights (1-1) earned their first win of the season when it hosted John A. Holmes (0-1-1) on Thursday evening.

Senior Ryan VanKirk scored all four goals for Currituck, with two goals in the first half and two goals in the second half.

Senior Bradley White and junior Connor Kelley each earned an assist in the game, while senior Connor Goins made three saves in goal without allowing a goal and junior JeanCarlos Gonzalez saved four shots.

Both teams are scheduled to play their next game on Monday as Currituck plays at Manteo and the Aces host Bear Grass Charter.

Pungo Christian Academy 2, Albemarle School 1: The Colts (1-1, 0-1 TIC) lost their first Tarheel Conference game of the season after falling to the Raiders (2-1, 1-0 TIC) on the road.

Albemarle School held a 1-0 lead at halftime after a goal from Donovan Sherlock, but Pungo Christian scored twice in the second half. Eighth grader Aiden Deberry made 14 saves in net for the Colts.

They’ll try to get back in the win column next Thursday home against Ridgecroft.


Perquimans def. Northeastern 25-2, 25-14, 25-19: The Lady Pirates (2-1) handily defeated the Lady Eagles (0-3) on Thursday.

Senior Allie Copeland led the way with 10 kills as Morgan Decastillia has six and Abby Todd had five.

Todd also contributed four serving aces and McKayle Knapp had 15 assists and 11 digs.

Perquimans next goes to Currituck for a match on Tuesday, while Northeastern hosts John A. Holmes.

Greenville Christian Academy def. Victory Christian: The Lady Eagles (0-1) lost in three sets to the Lady Knights (2-0) at home Thursday.


Greene Central 9, Currituck 0: The Lady Knights (1-1) were swept in a home match against the Lady Rams (3-0) in Barco Thursday.
