More area athletic events halted in advance of Hurricane Dorian

Several sporting events in the area were not played Tuesday because of the threat of Hurricane Dorian.

Currituck County officials Tuesday issued a mandatory evacuation for Currituck's Outer Banks communities beginning today.

All sporting events involving Currituck County Schools from Tuesday afternoon through Friday will not take place.

That impacted Currituck County High School athletic events.

The Currituck County High School football team was scheduled to face Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Virginia today.

No information has been provided on if or when games will be rescheduled.

As of Tuesday evening, sporting events scheduled for today involving Northeastern and Pasquotank County high schools were still scheduled to be played.

Perquimans' home football game scheduled for Friday against Southside High School was postponed until Oct. 4 in Hertford.

As of Tuesday evening, no confirmation was provided on the status of sporting events this week involving Elizabeth City State or Mid-Atlantic Christian universities.

The ECSU football team is scheduled to host Allen University from Columbia, South Carolina for its home opener Saturday at Roebuck Stadium.

As of Tuesday evening, the storm was located off the east coast of Florida.

Hurricane Dorian could impact the region beginning Thursday.
