HERTFORD — The Perquimans County High School volleyball team defeated Pamlico County 20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 16-14 Tuesday night at Perquimans County High School.
Perquimans (5-2) was down five points to the Hurricanes (4-3) in the final set, but was able to fight back and win.
Kayle Knapp had eight service points, Abby Todd had four service points, Natalie Corprew posted nine service points, Katelyn Sharber had 17 service points and Eby Scaff had 11 service points in the victory.
“I’m so proud of the way we played tonight,” Perquimans coach Kristie Thach said. “We never gave up, we fought hard, we showed heart and beat a good Pamlico team.”
Northeastern def. John A. Holmes 25-17, 16-25, 25-18, 25-10: The Lady Eagles (2-6) secured the non-conference win in Edenton Tuesday.
The Aces (2-3) were led by Sarai Leigh with six kills and two aces. Reagan Stallings had five kills and four aces. Makensey Caroon had 12 assists, while Kristen Williams had seven assists.
Northeastern coach Kandis Rainey noted that Millicent Ott and Sydney Miller’s control of the net and a great team effort were key for NHS in the win.
Currituck def. Grassfield (Va.) 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13: Currituck (5-1) edged Grassfield, a Class 6 program, at Grassfield in Chesapeake, Virginia Tuesday.
First Flight 7, Currituck 2: The Lady Knights (2-4, 1-2 Northeastern Coastal Conference) lost the league match at Currituck County High School Tuesday.
Currituck’s Marley Renner won her No. 2 singles match 6-4, 6-2 against Allison Hudson. Currituck’s No. 2 doubles team of Samantha Phillips and Lilly Nekervis won their match 8-4 against Hudson and Grace Carmines.
First Flight (2-2, 2-0 NCC) secured wins in singles from Gray Tillett (6-0, 6-0) against McKenna Sweeney, Courtney Tillett (6-1, 7-5) against Karrigan Belangia, Grace Woerner (6-2, 6-7[4-7], 1-0[10-7]) against Phillips, Pia Jastrzemski (6-2, 6-4) against Nekervis and Lauren Shelton (6-2, 6-3) against Caroline Boughn.
The Nighthawks won No. 1 and No. 3 doubles with the pairs of Gray and Courtney Tillett (8-2) against Sweeney and Renner and Jastrzemski and Woerner (8-4) against Boughn and Belangia.
John A. Holmes 9, Gates 0: The Lady Aces (4-2, 1-0 Albemarle Athletic Conference) earned the league win at Gates Tuesday.
Lilly Bunch (6-0, 6-0), Sydney Spear (6-0, 6-0), Carson Ray (6-0, 6-1), Bailey Rinehart (6-0, 6-0), Caroline Stoltz (6-0, 6-1) and Trinity Copeland (6-1, 6-0) won singles matches for Edenton.
Bunch and Spear (8-0), Rinehart and Ray (8-0) and Copeland and Stoltz (8-0) won their doubles matches.
Pungo Christian Academy 8, Albemarle School 2: The Colts (1-3, 0-2 Tarheel Independent Conference) lost the conference match at Pungo Christian Tuesday.
Raymond Hooper and Donovan Sherlock scored for Albemarle School.
Miller Lee led Pungo Christian (4-3, 1-1 TIC) with two goals in the win.
Southside 6, Perquimans 0: The Pirates (1-4) lost the non-conference match in Chocowinity Tuesday.
Southside (4-0) had six players score a goal in the win.
