CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are trying to identify two women who were killed when they were hit by a train.
Capt. Rod Farley says the women were not carrying identification when they were hit by a train shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday.
Police say the women were hit on tracks near an apartment complex, an elementary school and several small businesses.
Police say a CSX train was headed to Bostic when the engineer thought he saw someone sleeping on the tracks. The engineer told police he put the train in an emergency stop and sounded the horn and bell but the train struck the person.
The bodies of two women were found under the train, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.
