WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) — A crack in a sewage pipe in Wilmington has resulted in about 1,000 gallons of wastewater reaching a ditch leading into a nearby creek.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority says the line break was discovered Thursday morning near a pump station. Almost 4,700 gallons of wastewater escaped. All but about 1,000 gallons was recovered by utility pump trucks.

The utility said water quality testing has been done around the site.

The utility said because of the relatively small spill and dilution from the current storm system moving through the area, additional samples probably will not be required.
