RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Cleaning up after the winter storm that snarled North Carolina roads means putting a priority on moving abandoned vehicles.
Thirty-year-old Mike Spears of Raleigh on Thursday was reclaiming the Mustang convertible he abandoned during a tortured attempt to navigate stalled city traffic during the height of Wednesday's snowfall.
The rear-wheel-drive muscle car repeatedly slid off the road, each time righted by other motorists who jumped out to push Spears back onto the trail. He was nearly out of fuel when he rolled it off the side of a four-lane city street near North Carolina's only maximum security men's prison.
Spears brought friends and a pickup truck back to the spot Thursday to try pushing and pulling the vehicle back onto the pavement and refilling the gas tank.
