SHELBY, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say the number of black bear sightings is rising in Cleveland County.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission told The Star of Shelby (http://bit.ly/W8AWBl ) that officers now get about 10 bear sightings a year. Wildlife officers say bears are working their way east from where they are more commonly seen in the North Carolina mountains.
Authorities now allow bear hunting in season across all of Cleveland County. Before, hunting was only allowed in the western half.
Wildlife officials say most bears are just passing through and pose no risk to people. But they recommend keeping outside trash sealed up and pet feeders cleaned up so bears aren't attracted.

Bears
Sorry, but I saw a fully grown Black Bear crossing the road in Greene County a couple months ago. It was wild, b/c another lady approaching from the other direction stopped after it went across and asked if she'd really seen that.
