BOONE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say they have found the body of a man in the top floor of an apartment building that was heavily damaged by fire in Boone.

The fire was reported about 4 a.m. Wednesday at the building on the western edge of Boone and not far from the southwest edge of the Appalachian State University campus. Boone firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the four-unit apartment building when they arrived.

Crews were able to bring the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, but at least two of the four apartment units were heavily damaged.

Apartment resident Lisa Hensley told WCNC-TV of Charlotte hat she jumped to safety when the fire broke out.
