ASHEVILLE — Asheville's fire chief said a blaze that destroyed at least one building on the site of a coming brewery complex is part of a string of arsons that have hit the mountain city in the past week.
Investigators say four of eight fires in the city were deliberately set and the causes of two others are under investigation. Fire Chief Scott Burnette tells the Asheville Citizen-Times the blazes included two fires late Friday. One fire destroyed material on the planned site of the New Belgium Brewery that the company wanted to salvaged.
Burnette says it's unclear whether the same arsonist could have started all of the fires.
New Belgium spokesman Bryan Simpson says the damage won't delay construction of the Colorado company's $175 million East Coast brewery.
