MURPHY — A man is facing charges in an August wreck that killed two workers for the N.C. Department of Transportation.
State troopers have charged Richard Roberts with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle.
Troopers said Roberts told them he fell asleep before running off the road on Aug. 3, hitting two workers and a parked dump truck on the northbound shoulder of state highway N.C. 60 west of Murphy.
Tony Leon Wright and Dannie Burrell were killed. The men were part of a crew that had been working on a drainage ditch. Troopers say they had no time to get out of the way.
Roberts is expected to appear in court Feb. 12. It wasn't known if he had an attorney.
