GREENSBORO— A man wanted in connection with a woman's death and an assault on a postal worker has been found dead of a gunshot wound after wrecking his car on a Greensboro street.

Greensboro police said Menice Montell Smith was spotted Monday by a Guilford County sheriff's deputy who tried to stop him. Police officers were chasing the car driven by Smith when it crashed into a tree.

Spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said when officers reached the car, they found Smith had shot himself. The suspect was pronounced dead at Moses Cone Hospital.

Danielsen said Smith is also a suspect in the death of a second woman whose body was found in her home. Police confirmed that the car Smith was driving was registered to the address where the body was found.
