Investigators say the shooting took place Saturday evening at a home on Lucas Drive, located on the city's southeast side near Hillside High School. The two victims were later found sitting in a vehicle on Halyard Court about a half-mile away.
Both were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Police have not released the identities of the victims or their condition, but a family member told WRAL-TV in Raleigh that the wounded boy is about 8 years old.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Callers are not required to identify themselves and a cash reward is available for information leading to an arrest.
