MOUNT GILEAD, N.C. (AP) — Dozens of residents in a Montgomery County adult care home were left to find new places to live after officials say the home's owners abandoned them.

The Department of Health and Human Services says Amy and Larry Patton told them Tuesday they would have to close the Tillery Chase home in Mount Gilead because of payment delays from the state Medicaid office.

DHHS says computers, televisions and an ice maker were gone when employees came to work Thursday. County officials have been working to find new places for the residents.

Gov. Pat McCrory said Friday at a meeting of the N.C. Association of County Commissioners that the couple had skipped out in the middle of the night. The Pattons also own two Guilford County adult care homes that have closed.
