LINCOLNTON, N.C. (AP) — Authorities in Lincoln County say a man is accused of dragging a sheriff's deputy with his car and spitting blood on him during a traffic stop.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said a deputy chased a car that didn't stop for a red light. The deputy said the driver refused to get out of his car.
Officials say a second deputy arrived, and they both tried to pull the suspect from the car. The suspect drove off, dragging the second deputy 40 feet and spitting blood on him.
The sheriff's office said 20-year-old Jake Ellis Nelson of Sherills Ford faces numerous charges after Tuesday's incident, including assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer.
Nelson is free on $18,000 bond. It's not known if he has an attorney.
