NEWTON, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man is ordered to spend the rest of his life in prison after kidnapping and killing a woman with which he once had a relationship.

The Hickory Daily Record reports (http://bit.ly/1qfYXpU ) that 50-year-old Aaron Compton of Granite Falls was sentenced for first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

Compton broke into 40-year-old Tabatha Heavner's apartment in Newton last August, stabbed her and forced her into a car.

Police said Heavner jumped from the car only for Compton to stop and stab her again. She was trying to escape when she was hit by a truck and other vehicles and killed.
