GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — A Lowell man has been arrested after police say he gave a teller a note saying his children had been kidnapped.
Gastonia police said a man entered a Bank of America branch late Tuesday morning and handed a note to a teller which asked for money for his children who he said had been kidnapped.
Police said no money was taken from the bank and the suspect fled.
Authorities said 20-year-old Jorge Manuel Ortiz Zarco is charged with common law robbery. He is in the Gaston County jail under $150,000 bond. It's not known if he has an attorney.
