GASTONIA — Two Gastonia police officers are on administrative leave during an investigation into why a man was shot to death after they responded to a domestic violence call.

Police reports say 50-year-old Kenneth Glaze was fatally shot Friday night during a struggle for one of the officers' handguns. Paramedics pronounced Glaze dead on the scene.

The officers had responded to help one victim that police reports say was choked and a second who was slapped before both were assaulted with hedge shears. The victims were Glaze's sister and her boyfriend. They called the police after getting out of an East Ninth Avenue home.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating to determine if the officers' actions were justified.
