FAYETTEVILLE — Authorities in Cumberland County arrested a woman who they say drove under the influence with her children in the car, then falsely reported one of them was missing.
The sheriff's office said 23-year-old Karra Shanae Jones of Hope Mills made a frantic call to 911 Thursday saying her 5-year-old daughter had been taken from her car while she was parked at a convenience store. Upon arriving, deputies found an empty booster seat. Another child inside the car was unharmed.
Tanna said the 5-year-old was found safe at the daycare center where she'd been dropped off.
Deputies charged Jones with child endangerment, driving while intoxicated and misuse of the 911 communications system. A breathalyzer test showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.21 percent, nearly three times the legal limit in North Carolina.
