PLYMOUTH — Authorities say one person is dead and another person injured after an incident at paper mill outside of Plymouth.
Lt. Drew Robinson of the Martin County Sheriff's Office said the incident involved the release of hydraulic fluid that was under pressure. It happened at the Domtar plant near U.S. 64 around noon Monday.
Domtar officials couldn't be reached immediately for additional comment.
Domtar's website says the original pulp mill on the Washington-Martin county line was opened in 1937 by the North Carolina Pulp Co., with its first paper machine started in 1947. It was acquired by Weyerhaeuser in 1957 and started fine paper production in 1965.
The mill became part of Domtar in 2007.
Plymouth, which is in Washington County, is approximately 125 miles east of Raleigh.
