FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A Fayetteville man is in jail after officers say he robbed a convenience store and then led police on a nearly 100-mile chase along Interstate 95.

Authorities say 30-year-old Adrian Jason Roberts is charged with armed robbery and fleeing to elude arrest.

Police say the holdup happened Monday evening when Cumberland County sheriff's deputies were called to a robbery at a convenience store. Authorities say when officers were closing off the crime scene the suspect returned to the scene and was recognized by bystanders.

He then drove off in an SUV and led officers on the chase. It ended in Johnston County when the Highway Patrol put stop sticks on the pavement.

It was not immediately known if Roberts had an attorney.
