RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A Fort Bragg soldier who was planning a secular-themed concert at the base has canceled the event, saying the post reneged on promises of support.
Sgt. Justin Griffith said Thursday the Rock Beyond Belief event had received promises of support from leadership at the sprawling Army base.
Griffith began planning the event after a Christian concert at the base in September. Military leaders have said the base was not favoring Christians, but would provide similar support to other groups.
But Griffith says he was told to scale back his plans for the event, forcing him to cancel.
Mikey Weinstein is the president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. He says his group is planning to file a lawsuit on Griffith's behalf.
