RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a competitor in the Raleigh Ironman triathlon has been hurt after an SUV that passed him and other bicyclists suddenly stopped in front of him.

Troopers say the driver of the SUV illegally passed the bicycle riders on a double yellow line around 9:15 a.m. Sunday.

When race officials told her to slow down, investigators say she stopped abruptly and the lead bicyclist struck her SUV.

Troopers say the bicyclist lost some teeth and suffered back and neck pain, but the injuries weren't considered life threatening. His name was not released.

The driver of the SUV was charged with reckless driving and failing to obey a traffic officer. Troopers didn't release her name.

The 3,000 athletes in the triathlon swim, bike and run.
