2008 Honda Fit is little car with big list of fans

Whether it's the gas prices or the new designs manufacturers are giving their compact car products, small cars are making a comeback.

The Honda Fit is at the top of my short list for small cars.

The 2008 soft-top I got to fold into for seven days lived up to my expectations of what it would be like to drive around in a James-Bond type car. Nah, that was a Beemer.

It's got an attractive design, comfortable seating for four and a peppy ride.

This year the Fit remains unchanged from last year's debut design.

I loved driving the Fit and its athletic personality.

I was pleasantly surprised by the nimbleness of this "little car that could" with its 109-horsepower engine. The Scion xD is the only car in this class and price range that soundly beats the Fit in the power department.

In fact, this car seems so nimble and athletic, you forget you're handicapped by a such a small engine.

When passing a car on a two-lane highway, I was not-happily-surprised to find acceleration peaked about halfway past the car I was passing.

And when you have the pedal to the floor, the Fit expresses its displeasure with a distinct, and annoying buzzing sound.

For a little car, you can get a lot of stuff in the Fit.

The car's innovative rear seat and cargo area, created by locating the gas tank under the front passenger seat can created 41.9 cubic feet of cargo space by folding the rear set flush to the low floor in the cargo area.

This is huge for a small car. It's six cubic feet bigger than what you get in the xD and double the cargo space in a Yaris.

Gas mileage is the best thing about the Fit. We got about 32 miles per gallon, with a mix of city and highway miles.

The Fit is probably the priciest compact car you'll find with a price tag of about $15,200.

For those who don't need a lot of room for passengers or stuff, and are looking for great gas mileage, the Fit should measure up nicely,
