Illegal immigrants at COA
It must have slipped under my radar that in 2004 the state’s community colleges had been given the option of admitting or not admitting illegal immigrants as students. College of the Albemarle was among those that chose not to admit them. Now the ruling has been changed, requiring all colleges to open their doors to those now living illegally in this country. Is that good or bad?

It is a bad thing. It is a very, very bad thing. I simply don’t understand on what premise of law the decision can be made to allow illegal aliens anything other than medical care in emergencies, as they are being transported to the border. Furthermore, I don’t understand why this is even an issue; it should not be. With as much of our tax dollars that are wasted it is beyond me why the immigration gurus can’t get a guest worker program that works. I don’t understand why a funded fence can’t be built and I don’t understand why law enforcement isn’t allowed and even encouraged to arrest illegal aliens. Why isn’t our General Assembly awake? The NC Administrative Code could be changed by them. I am left to believe it is the drug cartels operating that prevents this situation of illegal immigration from being solved when the base of both political parties want it ended.

This should be another “no brainer.” If they are here illegally, are they not “breaking the law”? Now if I’m wrong, please let me know. They should be sent back to the home country. If you are concerned please call the govenor or your representives and let them know that you aren’t happy about this ruling. I did!! God Bless Our Troops & The USA

I find it absolutely appalling that our elected house representative heads to Washington and our governor to the Governor’s Mansion and instead of representing us, their constituents, they instead concern themselves with the rights of people who aren’t even U.S. citizens. This is absolutely inexcusable and I pray that in next year’s election someone decides to run against G.K. Butterfield who on numerous occasions voted against securing the border. Furthermore, I feel English should be our national language with no exceptions. I would hate for North Carolina to go down the same educational path that California is adopting where the class time is split between English instruction and Spanish instruction. We must bring pride back to what it is to be an American and stop this self-loathing and guilt we have adopted because we are a prosperous nation.

It is simple. The keyword here is “illegal.” The illegals should have no rights here in the US. If the illegals want to have the same rights as us, then they need to register, become legal, and pay taxes like the rest of us. They can then have the privileges of getting an education at our colleges.

The thing I cant understand is how the elected officials can protect these people. If you call the govenors office they will tell you no federal or state money is used. The question they cant answer is if that is true then why does the state and federal goverment supply the colleges with money every year. If one of these illegals turns out to be a terorsist then can we prosecute the govenor for helping them. And in that case, if they are illegal and are in our contry not paying taxes, why should they get to use the buildings our tax dollars paid for?

The only representive from our area that I have not left a message with is Bill Owens. The governor, Basnight, Speaker of The House, all said they were glad I called and they would add my name to the long list of people that have called. That is suppose to make me feel better.I will feel better when there is “Some Action Taken”!!! and I don’t mean “Lip Service.” Call these people, E-Mail them, we have to hold their feet to the fire, so that action will be taken. Let them know election time is coming. Of course the two representives we have aren’t going to break Into a Sweat,Who running against Me!! God Bless Our Troops & The USA

I think that it is more than fair that they be allowed to attend C.O.A. It makes me so angry that people have the nerve to go and talk about the “illegal aliens” the way that some people do. Saying that it just appalls you. Does that cross your mind when they are building your houses or working your fields. Admit it they are the majority that are out there doing all the dirty work that a lot of us don’t want to do. Tell me that anyone that loves their family wouldn’t do whatever it takes to try and give them the best that they can. All they want is a chance and they do all that they can do to try and get one.

Tiffany, Does it cross my mind when they build houses or work the fields? Yes, as a matter of a fact it does. There are many programs that allow for farmers and builders to bring foreign nationals in to do such labor. However, people take shortcuts and try and circumvent the system. That is why I am for harsher penalties for employers who hire illegal aliens. Immigrants have indeed built the foundation of our great country; however, it was immigrants who desired to be Americans. Americans who embrace our country as their own and pick up the traditions and language. Vice coming here illegally, working under the table, not paying taxes but then want all benefits those who pay taxes have? As to your last argument; so, if someone holds up a bank because their family needs food then that is ok? If they want a chance and they want to be Americans then I suggest they go about it they way immigrants have done since the dawn of the United States….file the paperwork and come here legally. You feel pity for those who break the law, what about those who wait their turn just to be jumped in line by those who have no regard for rules.

A typical liberal viewpoint..they are doing the work no one else will do. What a crock! These people have broken the LAW that is the very basic foundation of our democracy. If these “people” want our benefits, let them OBEY the LAW and become US CITIZENS. Taxpayer money IS being used to give them welfare, childcare, housing, etc., etc. It is time for decent citizens to stop this ILLEGAL takeover of our great and proud USA!

We need to look at this very strongly and hold our elected officials feet to the fire. We don’t have to wait on our president, because he is one of the problems. Congress and our representives are hot and cold. We need those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare to “get a job”!!! The schools, education, even college are there. When a welfare mom has a welfare baby, something is broke. Look at New Orleans. They were waiting for the welfare government to come save them!!! They have been receiving those checks for so long, it’s like it is passed down from mother to daughter. I have seen it in my life time.
Now if the illegals come in, see ya, because life as we know it will be gone in a few short years.
