Smoke (Cough! Cough!) chokes Albemarle
Smoke from dozens of wind-whipped wildfires poured across the area this week. Many residents were evacuated to escape the heavy smoke, but a lot more have had to endure it in their homes, businesses and schools. Then fire officials had to close U.S. 17 in northern Camden County, forcing travelers and commuters to take different routes back and forth. Would anyone like to share their smoke-filled experience?

Nothing is worse than sitting in college as smoke is slowly filling the school. Many of us at COA wondered when why classes were still in session…many students were coughing, and most couldn’t go outside without using some piece of clothing to cover their mouths…I’m not sure what started the fires, but I hope that we are better prepared in the future.

Yea how about nearly being invovled in that pile-up this morning caused by some jack butt driving like a bat outta hell into a wall of smoke, with ZERO visability. Guess it would have been too easy and too smart to have slowed down, but no, instead he took out 3 cars, almost took out mine. He should have his license permanently revoked for being stupid and dangerous in public!
Gotta question the sheriff and firemen too, where were they? Why wasn’t the road being actively monitored? Signs to do not monitor the road! Why did it take a multi-vehicle accident to get some county authorities out there to monitor the road? Where were they, what were they doing? Obviously nothing, or that accident could have been avoided.
But the jack butt in the black SUV/truck, still needs to lose his license for being stupid in public!

Yeah I drove through it yesterday morning around 6:45 a.m. I have videos of me driving through it. It was crazy. But it wasn’t that bad yesterday. It seems to have gotten worse since then.

Is US 17 South and North still closed?
