Gas prices up again?
Anyone notice that gas prices are up? I mean way up. Anyone who’s filled up in the last few days has certainly noticed. The Associated Press reports that “gas prices jumped Friday (Feb. 22) to their highest level since June… .” The report also says analyst expect “a record spike in pump prices this spring.” This probably has a lot to do with a new record price being paid on the world market of $101 a barrel, even though U.S. domestic supplies are now at a 14-year high. There seems to be little hope of predicting with any accuracy when gas prices might become more stable. All that matters to consumers is that it’s costing a lot more to drive our cars and heat and cool our homes and businesses. It is predictable that gasoline prices won’t fall below $2.50 at the pump anytime soon or ever. Anyone see any hope for that?

I don’t see hope in the price falling. I really wish we could utilize coal in a clean manner. I have heard that there is a way to do that but if it really is I don’t know. I would want the safe rooms perfected for the miners to work in before we expanded coal operations. As a matter of fact, I want the safe rooms perfected now. I don’t want to endure another 2 weeks of watching the likes of the Crandle Canyon incident. That is another subject though. It seems to me coal would be a great answer. Some say it is abundantly available. It would put more Americans to work and since it is on our soil it would be less transportation cost involved than shipping a tanker from Saudi Arabia. I am surprised the cost of other products hasn’t climbed more than what they have since oil touches everything.
I know coal won’t help with the gas for cars directly but by lessening the demand, maybe, just maybe it would help.

As long as we allow ourselves to rely on the world markets for our oil prices will always be unpredictable. It amazes me that some dictator in an oil producing country can come out and do or say something and they get rewarded because it causes the cost of a barrel of oil on the world market to go up. Technology has come a long way. We can safely drill in areas and not do harm to the ecosystem. It is time we stopped damaging our country from within. Is it no wonder the economy may be sagging when we don’t harness the fuel needed for industry? Nuclear plants, new refineries and letting us go after our own oil are solutions to the problem we face; however, thanks to environmentalist and Al Gore we are left hamstrung.
