Economy, gas prices taking toll
The situation with gas prices bouncing around four bucks a gallon and higher has put a serious crimp in many resident’s summer vacation plans. It’s also cutting into other aspects of Albemarle living. People are cutting back on other needs to makeup for the cost of fuel. These and other factors are affecting the national and local economy, with consumers paying higher prices for food and other products and services. I’m wondering if anyone wants to share their stories on coping with high fuel and product costs or unemployment. I know most people are feeling some impact from the current gasoline-economic crunch. Please share your experiences with me and our readers. You are not alone.

For those of us that wanted change, Look at this??
He is something to think about In just a year and a quarter… Remember the election in 2006?
Thought you might like to read the following: A little over one year and one quarter ago: 1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high; 2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon; 3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%. Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen: 1) Consumer confidence plummet; 2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $4.00 a gallon; 3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase); 4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses); 5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion; 6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure. America voted for change in 2006, and we got it! Remember it's Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him. Quote of the Day........'My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it.' -- Barack ObamaBy Butch

This also very interesting Taxes… Whether Democrat or Republican you will
find these statistics enlightening and amazing. www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html Taxes under Clinton 1999 Taxes under Bush 2008 Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500 Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500 Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000 Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750 Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250 The demoncratic candidate will return to the higher tax rates. It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama is elected, he says he will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie "The Sting" with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.God Bless America & God Bless Our Troops

Perhaps this is something else we might want to look at. How long has our candiates been in Congress. God Bless Our Troops & The USA Just how much Senate experience does Barack Obama have in terms of actual work days? Not much.
From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That’s how many days the Senate was actually in session and working. After 143 days of work experience, Obama believed he was ready to be Commander In Chief, Leader of the Free World, and fill the shoes of Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK and Ronald Reagan. 143 days — I keep leftovers in my refrigerator longer than that.
In contrast, John McCain’s 26 years in Congress, 22 years of military service including 1,966 days in captivity as a POW in Hanoi now seem more impressive than ever. At 71, John McCain may just be hitting his stride.

Gas prices? Easy fix: Quit buying from Exxon/Mobil and BP/Amoco. When these two companies stop making outrageous profits, they will be forced to lower their prices. When they do, the other companies will follow behind. Simple as that. You cannot fault a year and a half of Democratic rule in Congress for the mess we’re in. The seeds were planted during the Republican Congress and now the Democrats are trying to nip it in the bud, so to speak. And yes, taxes take money from your paycheck. But taxes also pay for much of the things we just think the civil faries wave their magic wands and we get to use like roads, bridges, police, fire department, water, electricity, garbage collection, postal service, military etc. The list is long. What we need is for corporations that took jobs south or overseas to be forced to return those jobs to the U.S. so that we can get back to work. I see a trend that Republicans and Conservatives don’t dislike government so much as they dislike governance. The idea that there is someone checking that they’ve dotted their i’s and crossed their t’s while they are trying to expand and exploit every loophole to squeeze every possible dollar out of us work-a-day folks and cut corners to make a cheap, flimsy, dangerous product or service, irks them to no end. Hurricane Katrina, anyone? Question: If Obama trounces McCain and cake-walks into the Oval Office, will you be able to call him President Obama? (sounds of republicans screaming with abject horror) Bring on the debates.

The USA could cut buying Mid East Oil pretty quick if we would use the OIL that we have right here in the “Good Ole USA” Out in Texas,Mid West, The North Slope of Alaska, of course, we would have to watch out for the Elk etc. Of course they weren’t bother to much when they were builting the pipeline. Now please, we don’t want to talk about our Oceans either. China is drilling oil off of Cuba and we can’t drill because of the threat of oil spills, Well guess what America, if you want to keep paying those high prices keep the oil in the ground. If we would become depend on Our Oil, it would stop the flow of oil dollars going to Countries that hate us and this would be one way to cut the money of to those folks that are trying to kill us or do us harm. We have to let Crogress know it is time we want serious action taken on this. Kick the lobbies and special interest goups out on the street. This could get moving if we made a big fuss, like they having hear in years. God Bless America & God Bless Our Troops.

The bush admin needs to be prosecuted because of the way it has done us Americans. And locals are not much better when it comes to business sence. The state has been ripping us off for years. As a NC taxpayer I am sick and tired of the ferry expences that we have to bear at Hatteras if we charged a toll it would cover the fuel, pay, etc… and we would probably have a good beach enrichment program or money to repair our obx bridges. Come on people act like you have brains in your heads an get a toll put in!!!
