Rounding third and heading for home …

Joe Nuxhall passed away overnight after a fight with cancer. “The Old Left-hander” will be remembered by some as the youngest player in major league history, pitching for the Cincinnati Reds two-thirds of an inning against the St. Louis Cardinals a month and a half before his 16th birthday.
To me, he will always be one-half of the Reds’ radio broadcast team with Marty Brennaman. I grew up listening to “Marty and Joe” and listened to many games as I went to sleep as a boy when the Big Red Machine was in its heyday. I continued to listen through the years, until Joe retired in 2004.
He is finally “Rounding third and heading for home.”
Rest in peace, Joe.
