NJ, Target settle over expired goods, price errors

The Associated Press

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

NEWARK, N.J. — Target Corp. has agreed to pay New Jersey $375,000 to settle a lawsuit that it sold expired baby formula and charged different prices at the register than advertised.

Attorney General Anne Milgram says the Minneapolis-based retail giant will establish a position for a senior manager who will ensure advertised prices match what customers are being charged.

Target also agreed to provide its New Jersey employees with price-accuracy training over the next two years.

Target admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement.

New Jersey filed suit against Target in 2008 after investigators found problems at 21 of its stores.

The state previously reached settlements over similar allegations with Rite Aid Corp. and Duane Reade. Suits are still pending against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Drug Fair.
