Lighter shingle boats disappeared 150 years ago

George Ramsay demonstrates how a Shingle Lighter boat is maneuvered, Wednesday, Ramsay built the boat based on only two known drawings of the vessel that will be on display on the Great Dismal Swamp canal trail.

Building a type of boat that no one has seen for 150 years isn’t easy. But with the aid of photographs from a magazine and a little help from his friends, George Ramsey managed to build one in five months.

Thanksgiving dinner promised in Camden
Sheriff’s office raising donations

This year, Camden County will have its own Thanksgiving Day dinner for those in the county who can’t afford dinner or are alone on the holiday.

The Camden County sheriff has closed his department’s satellite office in South Mills because water damage and mold problems have made work inside the office impossible.

Of course, deer is in season and bear season starts soon, but seasons for some small game have already begun as well.
