CAMDEN — The manager of a $1.6 million federal recreation grant was hired by the Camden County Schools last fall, a few months after he paid off fines for a drunken driving conviction and faced a trail of court appearances on other charges in recent years.

Why did he resign from Pasquotank Co. High School?
Why would he resign from the head football coach and teaching position at Pasquotank county High school after only one year there? Makes you wonder doesn't it. No need to write down what really happened because the daily advance will delete it. There is more to this story than the public knows.
standing up for TDA
This is information the public has the right to. It is the people's money being handled. There is a definite pattern of behavior in existence. Three years is not proof of a bad behavior being broken. I am not saying the man has not changed his ways for the better, just that the public has a right to be skeptical. Maybe he was the best choice in interviews. That is a little difficult to imagine though.
If you don't want crimes and convictions following you, don't break the law. That may sound harsh but that is the way it is.
Rewarding bad behavior
People dealing with public money should always be held to the highest standards. Yes this does make you and your entire life public as it should be. Don't like it, don't take a public job. Would you give this individual your purse or check book? Regardless of how many safeguards you can think of, you chose to entrust him with 1.6 million of our tax dollars. It is hard to believe a man entrusted with our children did not consider a sustained pattern of poor judgement prior to, or after his history was known is relevant. Sounds like there may be more than one apple bad under this tree.
DUI, not embezzling.
While I agree about higher standards for public employees, Mr. Ward has been in court for DWI/DUI problems, not embezzling. Should there be an extra set of eyes reviewing his work? Perhaps. But, as we heard in church today, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
???
If he was hired last fall and there are no problems with his job performance, what is the purpose of this article?
Exactly Jennifer
Exactly Jennifer! Thank the Daily Advance for bringing up a non-issue to be gnawed over like a bone by the dogs of desperation. Whoa! That ain't a bad alliteration. Pretty good rhyme too. ;)
There is a pattern of substance abuse
There is a pattern of substance abuse that goes back over a decade. To be sure there was an applicant as qualified without the DWI's and court problems. The hiring board didnt do a thorough background check and the community knows that. "Good ole boy" politics at its best!
Is this a retrial with TDA as judge, jury, & hangman?
Exactly how many times does a person have to be tried for something that happened years ago? Perhaps TDA should look into the skeleton closets of their own personnel before dragging others thru the mud. Mr. Ward has paid his debt to society and moved on with life. TDA should do the same. These incidents do not diminish his ability to perform the tasks he was hired to do. This article is in very poor taste. It amounts to little more than idle gossip and mudslinging. Kinder-Garden level journalism at best. An article on countywide seasonal automobile related animal road kills would be more interesting and thought provoking. Get my drift TDA?
