C AMDEN — Close quarters in the Camden County Courthouse make it nearly impossible for deputies to separate inmates from court officials and spectators during trials, Sheriff Tony Perry told county officials Monday.

Why not fix the old holding
Why not fix the old holding cell so that is secure;seems rather strange that a prisoner would be able to pull the hinge pins if the cell had been constructed properly in the first place. Making the old holding cell a totally secure cell, and enlarging it, would seem much cheaper than the price being quoted for a new addition.
over a quarter of a million dollars?
That is ridiculous. If this is a critical situation then existing space needs to be committed to this holding cell. My gosh, they have moved the manager and several others out of the complex. Use some of that space. Whoever took it over can give it up.
Scenery over Safety?
Who really cares what the courthouse looks like? What are the commissioners promoting? Tourism and landscaping or safety and justice? Wake up commissioners, or you getting your five minutes of fame for turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to a potential powder keg with a short burning fuse.
Take the commissioners out of the equation...
Ask those who serve in the courthouse; the Sheriff, deputies, judges, court personnel, and even past jury members if they have ever felt in danger due to the close quarters in the courthouse. If the answer is no, then trust in our law enforcement and court officials and move on. If however the answer is yet, then this might be worth taking a closer look at.
