The president of the state conference of the NAACP urged Elizabeth City residents Tuesday to send state Rep. Bill Owens a message on the budget recently approved by state lawmakers: If Gov. Bev Perdue vetoes the spending plan, Owens should vote no on a veto override.

HAVE NOTS VS WILL NOTS

Our current government social programs turn "have nots" into "do nots" & "will nots"! These programs reward bad behavior. I have seen this with my own eyes when trying to get someone off of unemployment and offer them a job. Their answer is "I'm just looking right now, I don't really want a job right now. I'm making a good living on unemployment." To Rep. Owens: Don't cave in to the bullies! Find a way to create real jobs.

Time to make cuts

Rep. Owens has a long standing reputation of doing what's right. His support for this budget is also what's right. It isn't going to be popular, but in his wisdom, he knows it's a long needed start. Barber and his followers might as well get ready for the gravy train to stop running. No longer can the working class support the "gimmee" class with endless funding and handouts.

Who Created the "gimmie" class?

Freespeaker:

Don't forget, many passengers on the train you identified as the "gravy train" are force to ride the train.

I think it fair to say the gravy train is not desired. I think many would rather work and earn an income. Where are the jobs for the people who need work to survive? When job offers and opportunities are available and people choose social programs over a job offer, I will agree that the train needs to stop running. Until then, the oil is a benefit to keep the train's motor moving forward without breaking down and leaving the passengers in a desperate state of mindset. By the way, who created the "gimmee class" and who designed the "gravy train"?

Cuts Needed

I hope Rep. Owens keeps his word and supports the budget.

Children

Cuts may be needed but not at the expense of children's education. Do you have children who attend public school?
