I hate to see Elizabeth City grow to 20-thousand. When I was a kid the population was about 13-thousand (I think) and I knew a lot of people whom I'd see regularly about town. Nowadays I can go most anywhere and not see a soul I know. Maybe it isn't a "BIG" problem, but it is symptomatic of the impersonal lives too many of us live these days. There's a lot to be said for "belonging" and a lot to be missed when one doesn't.
