The Elizabeth City State football team will open the 2013 season with a home game against Newberry College on Sept. 7.

It will be the third time the Vikings and Wolves have met, with Newberry winning both previous games, which were played at Newberry.

Last year the Wolves scored a season-opening 46-20 victory over visiting ECSU.

After the Newberry game, ECSU will not play at Roebuck Stadium again until Oct. 12 when it hosts Virginia State.

Of course, one “home” game will be the 16th annual Down East Viking Classic in Rocky Mount on Sept. 28.

This year’s opponent will be Fayetteville State, which has made seven appearances in the game. The Vikings have won the last five classics.

Rounding out the home schedule are the homecoming game against Lincoln (Oct. 19) and the regular-season finale against Bowie State (Nov. 9).

ECSU will play road games at Tusculum (Sept. 14), Albany State (Sept. 21), Saint Augustine’s (Oct. 5), Chowan (Oct. 26) and Virginia Union (Nov. 2).

The CIAA championship game is set for Nov. 16. ECSU has played in the last two title games, losing to Winston-Salem State each time.
