The CIAA named two Elizabeth City State players to its list of conference players of the week, as well as former Currituck tailback Marquise Grizzle.
Division II All-American Daront’e McNeill was named last week’s best offensive back, breaking school and personal records with six touchdown runs in the Vikings’ 63-19 victory at Lincoln Saturday.
The former Northeastern back broke his own school record, which he previously set with four touchdowns against Virginia Union last season.
In Raleigh, Grizzle continues to impress as a freshman tailback at Shaw. He was named the CIAA’s Rookie of the Week for the second-straight time thanks to a 229-yard rushing effort on 29 carries and two touchdowns in the Bears’ 48-20 win against Livingstone.
Grizzle, the 2011 Daily Advance Player of the Year, also made four catches for 25 yards Saturday.
Grizzle leads the CIAA in rushing yards per game at 124.5, while McNeill is second at 105.3 yards and first in rushing touchdowns scored at 10.
ECSU senior Brad Davis was named CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week for the second time this season. The defensive end from Charlotte finished with six tackles, five of them solo stops, including three sacks for a loss of 19 yards and five quarterback hurries.
