AWARDS
Awards presented in HH-60 Division
Several members of the Aircraft Repair and Supply Center's HH-60 Division received awards on May 7. George Archuleta received a Length of Service award for 30 years of service. Aviation Maintenance Technician Chief John Tanis received his eighth Good Conduct award. Chief Warrant Officer Glenn Jones was presented with a Meritorious Team Commendation. Tracey Burgess received a Certificate of Appreciation. Letters of Appreciation were presented to Tony Daniels and Joe Yates. Shield of Freedom Pins were presented to Bill Krimmel, William Martin and William Beatty.
Hess makes top five for Military Motherhood Award
1st Class Petty Officer Sarah Hess was selected as a top five nationwide finalist for Operation Homefront's Military Motherhood Award. The finalists were chosen from over 400 nominees in the contest was sponsored by Lockheed Martin. The top 20 were posted on Operation Homefront's community of military wives and women in uniform, CinCHouse.com. Readers voted to determine the top five. Hess works as a yeoman at Air Station Elizabeth City. She was the only Coast Guard member selected as a finalist. A panel of judges selected the winner from the top five. The winner, announced May 8, is Renee Garcia, the wife of a soldier serving in Afghanistan and the mother of four. The other top five finalists were: Misty Brandon-Gnann, Jennifer Lehnen and Carolyn Maupin.
GRADUATION
AST A School Class 67-08 graduates
Students from Aviation Survival Technician "A" School Class 67-08 graduated from the Aviation Technical Training Center on May 9. The five students spent the last 18 weeks learning to inspect, service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair cargo aerial delivery systems, drag parachute systems, aircraft oxygen systems, helicopter flotation systems, dewatering pumps, survival equipment for air-sea rescue kits, and special purpose protective clothing. ASTs also provide all aircrew survival training to aviators such as swim tests, survival lectures, and shallow water egress training. Aviation Survival Technicians function operationally as helicopter rescue swimmers and emergency medical technicians basic.

Coast Guard reunion set for June
The Chief Petty Officers Association is hosting a Coast Guard Biennial Reunion June 20-22. The reunion is open to all ranks of active duty and retired personnel who have ever been stationed in Elizabeth City, and will be held at the Chief Petty Officers Association quarters at 514 Cardwell Street in Elizabeth City.
