The Albemarle region figures prominently on television this week with two programs highlighting local talent and local landscapes.
You might have read in yesterday’s edition of The Daily Advance that Hertford resident Donny Denny will be featured on The Oprah Show tomorrow, 4 p.m. It seems Denny, who owns a plumbing business, was one of eight finalists for the show’s Karaoke Challenge.
Denny was flown to Chicago Monday to appear on the show. He’ll compete tomorrow in round one of the competition.
Viewers and audience members can vote for their favorite Karaoke performer either online on the show’s Web site, www.oprah.com, or by telephone with a number that will be displayed on the screen during the show.
The three performers to receive the most votes will move onto round two. From there more voting will take place and the top vote getter will be declared the winner.
Our State
Whether you watch Donny Denny on The Oprah Show or not, you can tune into public television on WUNC TV for an episode of Our State. Once there you’ll see Elizabeth City native Bland Simpson hosting a show segment about Elizabeth City.
“Professor, writer, and troubadour Bland Simpson reveals the fascinating story of his hometown on the Pasquotank River in Tar Heel Towns: Elizabeth City,” reads the promotional material for tomorrow’s show.
Last spring some folks had spotted the WUNC crew roaming around town. They were, in fact, filming this segment of the popular North Carolina public television broadcast.
For folks with Time-Warner Cable or just a simple digital antenna, The Oprah Show can be seen on channel 13 at 4 p.m. and Our State can be seen on channel 2 at 8 p.m.
