John A. Reynolds, of Brevard, works 40 antique shows a year from Virginia to Louisiana.
This year, he’s adding Hertford to his list of locations where he will show his unique line of custom-designed bead jewelry and other like pieces in gold, gemstones, and pearl.
“We design the pieces ourselves,” he said. “We have some very unusual pearl jewelry.”
Reynolds will also bring antique glass, china, silver and pottery to the show and sale this weekend that’s sponsored by Historic Hertford Inc. at the Perquimans Recreation Center. Other specialty items include his collection of Russian lacquer boxes.
Reynolds is just one of several antique dealers who will fill the recreation center Saturday 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.
Tickets are $7 each and are good for both days. Tickets are available at the Newbold-White House, the Chamber of Commerce office, The Pink Turtle, and at the door.
Murielle Harmon, member of HHI, the town’s Main Street Program, said dealers have been hand-picked for their quality of merchandise. Highlights of the show include jewelry, linens, silver, and antiques ranging from primitive American to English furniture to art and prints to fine china. Dealers will travel to Hertford from as far north as New York and as far south as South Carolina.
Harmon said she hopes to draw a crowd from within a two-hour drive radius including Elizabeth City, Edenton, Greenville, Goldsboro, Richmond and the Hampton Roads areas.
The show will feature a full service cafe by the Carriage House restaurant.
Harmon believes the show will also be good for local businesses by attracting more visitors into the area.
