Christmas lights make the season bright: Holiday lights contest winners

One by one they submitted their photographs. And in the end it was a close call for the second annual Daily Advance Christmas Light Contest.

The winners are Bill and Donna Spaulding of 608 Cedar St. in Elizabeth City. The Spauldings have been decorating the outside of their house for some time. And if there was a contest for interior decorating, the couple would be in the running, hands down.

“Since we’ve been here, 25 years,” says Donna Spaulding regarding how long they’ve decorated their home.

Spaulding says the lighting decorations change a bit here and there and even on the inside of the home, things get pretty festive — she starts decorating in September.

“I always enjoy Christmas and you want to give enjoyment,” says Spaulding. “It makes me feel good that someone is enjoying.”

So get in the car and check out the Spaulding’s house, and the 10 other entries. Some of them are even light shows synchronized with radio stations.

Merry Christmas and we hope, as Donna Spaulding does, that you get some enjoyment out of these lighting spectacles. — Robert Kelly-Goss/Albemarle Life Editor
