Arts of the Albemarle Photo Club is celebrating its 10th anniversary and it’s also time for shooters to begin preparing submissions for the annual Photography Competition. Today is the final day for submissions.

The event is sponsored by The Daily Advance.

Entires for the competition will be accepted at Arts of the Albemarle. The entries will be judged this year by guest juror, photographer and fine arts professor Thomas Siegmund.

Siegmund graduated from Old Dominion University in 1985 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree. He received his MFA from Old Dominion and Norfolk State’s Joint Graduate Program in 1992.

He has taught at Old Dominion University, Norfolk State, and The Governors School for the Arts. For the past 19 years, he has taught at the Visual Arts Center of Tidewater Community College, where he holds the title of Professor and is Program Head of the Photography Department.

He has exhibited his work regionally since the early 1990s.

The winners will be announced during the reception on May 2.

Photographers may submit two photographs that are framed and wired for hanging (ring type hangers and tabletop frames are not accepted) for consideration in the photography competition.

Drop off:

Photographs will be received at Arts of the Albemarle between Tuesday, April 15 and Friday, April 25 during regular gallery hours of 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Late entries and incorrectly or unlabeled works will not be accepted.

Awards & Reception:

The 2014 Annual Photography Competition is in collaboration with AoA’s Photography Club, which is celebrating their 10 year Anniversary this year. It is sponsored by The Daily Advance.

The winners of the photography competition will be announced at an opening reception at AoA during First Friday Art Walk on May 2, from 5:30 -7 p.m.. All participants and guest are invited to attend.

Juried Awards:

1st Place: $200

2nd Place: $100

3rd Place: $50

Pick-Up:

All unsold photographs must be picked up from AoA between Tuesday, June 3rd and Wednesday, June 4th during gallery hours. Checks for photographs sold will be issued after June 15. Exhibit on display at AoA from Friday, May 2 to June 3.

Entries for this year’s Photography Competition should be dropped off at AOA, the Center, 516 E. Main St., Elizabeth City, from April 15 to 25. Information about the competition can be found at www.aoaphotoclub.com/2014Competition.html.
