Grammy nominated and Dove Award winning country gospel singers, husband and wife Jeff and Sheri Easter are returning to Elizabeth City Friday, 7 p.m., at Fountain of Life Church.
As members of acclaimed gospel singing families, The Lewis Family and the Easter Brothers, Jeff and Sheri say music is “genetically programmed into their DNA.” The couple met years ago, playing at a gospel festival in Arkansas. Ten months after that meeting, they were married and began a life long trek, making their own music since 1988 and a name for themselves and their children as preeminent country gospel singers.
Also joining the couple is their son Madison who plays electric guitar for the group, and their daughter Morgan, who joins them with vocals. Also joining them on stage is daugher Maura Grace.
The Easters have been nominated for numerous Dove Awards — the Grammys of the gospel world — and have won five. They have also received a Grammy nomination and Sheri has been named the Singing News Favorite Alto 11 times, the Singing News Female Vocalist four times.
The Easters awards also include three Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association Awards, two International Country Gospel Music Association Awards, nine Voice Awards for Female Artist, five Vocal Awards for Song/Single of the Year and much, much more.
The couple has also been frequent guests on the Gaither Homecoming tour and videos. Aside from that, The Easters have a fairly stringent touring schedule.
“When we perform, we want people to leave a little different than when they came,” says Sheri Easter. “We want them to have a great time smiling, laughing, crying and healing. We want them to know God loves them and that he is in control.”
Children Madison, Maura and Morgan Easter are no strangers to the stage, either. All three children have grown around their parents and their performances. And all three have gradually become a part of the family business.
“These children have always loved music and have always yearned to be a part, so we always gave them the platform to encourage this love,” says their mom, Sheri. “Both Jeff and I remember what it was like ot have a desire to sing and play for the people and we want our children to have every opportunity that God offers to them.”
Tickets to see The Easters are on sale now for $15 each at Bryons Hot Dog Stand, Kenyon Bailey, Jefferey’s Florist, George Optical Shop and Christian Bookseller in Edenton.
