Scout earns National Merit
Submitted photo

Andrew Ruggiero (center), a rising fourth-grader at Jarvisburg Elementary School and a Pack 117 Cub Scout, has earned the prestigious Boy Scout National Certificate of Merit, which is given in recognition of a significant act of service. Andrew helped the Southern Shores Police Department in a case that resulted in the apprehension and arrest of suspects. This award was presented following the recommendation of the Boy Scout National Court of Honor, located in Dallas, Texas, after they reviewed the circumstances, Andrew’s oral and written account of the incident, and after conducting an investigative interview. During the presentation, district Boy Scout representative Luther Creel commented that in his 40 years of scouting, this was the first time this award was presented locally.
