Cradle Cap

(HealthScoutNews) -- Most babies get cradle cap at some time or another. This dry, flaky skin on infants' scalps is a type of seborrheic dermatitis caused by excessive skin oiliness. It's common in children under 18 months.

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta offers these treatment tips:

  • Brush your baby's scalp lightly with a soft brush once a day.
  • Ask your pediatrician about any special shampoos you can use on your baby's head.
  • If the crusting is severe, your pediatrician may suggest a special oil to help remove the crust.

If there's no improvement after a week of treatment, or if your baby's scalp begins to look infected, call your doctor as soon as possible.
