(HealthDay News) -- If your child just had a tonsillectomy, it may take a few days for her to feel normal and want to eat regularly again. Here are a few tips from the Cincinnati Children's Hospital on what you should expect before and after the surgery:

• For the first two days after surgery, the child should get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water.
• Normal activity and energy levels may not return for up to two weeks after surgery.
• While the child can eat any foods, it's normal to not have much appetite for a few days.
• A slight fever, nausea and pain are all normal after tonsillectomy. Bleeding or a high fever (more than 101.6 F) are not, so you should contact your doctor if these symptoms appear.
