CURRITUCK — A Shiloh man has been charged in connection with more than two dozen burglaries in Currituck County.
Curtis Michael Conant, 24, of 237 Sailboat Road, was arrested Saturday and charged with 25 counts of felony conspiracy, one count of second-degree burglary and one count of felony larceny, a press release from the Currituck Sheriff's Office states.
He is being held in Currituck Detention Center in lieu of a $110,000 secured bond.
According to the release, Currituck sheriff's deputies had been investigating more than 30 break-ins between March and May. The break-ins were discovered by homeowners and by sheriff's deputies during security checks of rental cottages in Corolla.
According to the sheriff's office, many of the break-ins involved the theft of flat screen and plasma televisions, with more than 45 of them reported stolen by homeowners and rental companies. Damage to homes totalled $3,000, while the stolen property is valued at $250,000.
During the investigation, deputies recovered stolen property from a residence in Currituck County. In addition, a TV stolen in Corolla was recovered in Elizabeth City on June 1.
According to the sheriff's office, two additional people have been charged in the break-ins and further arrests are pending. The sheriff's office declined to release the names of the other individuals who have been charged.
The suspects are also wanted in connection with a series of burglaries in Duck during the month of May, where televisions were also the most common item taken.
